Durban University of Technology accredited |
| |
| Following the receipt of a satisfactory Self-Study Report from Durban University of Technology (DUT), an Evaluation Team appointed by ECCE visited the campus in October 2009. The Team spent 4 days on site, visiting the facilities and meeting staff and students. This was the first time the ECCE has been asked to grant accredited status to an institution outside Europe, and the visit was extremely interesting reflecting the differences and similarities in chiropractic education and training in Africa and Europe. The Chair of the Team presented the Evaluation Report to CoA on 6 November 2009, and it is with pleasure that ECCE announces a sucessful outcome to the application. DUT is therefore accredited by the ECCE for a peroid of 3 years (2009-20012).

ECCE Training Day held on 05 September at the IFEC in
Paris |
| |
|
ECCE Training Day Training days are held by the ECCE to ensure
that evaluations of institutions are carried out in a rigorous,
consistent and fair manner. The objectives of these training events
are to inform potential Team members of the ECCE Standards, how they
are interpreted and measured, and the process of the Evaluation
Visit from the planning stages to writing the final Evaluation
Report. By attending the Training day, a pool of potential
Evaluation Team members can be compiled and called upon in the
selection of Team Members for on-site visits to institutions seeking
accreditation and re-accreditation.
A training day was held on Saturday 5 September 2009 at the IFEC
college in Paris. The ECCE invited representatives from the
accredited institutions in Europe and the national chiropractic
associations, and over 20 delegates attended the event. The day
started with a presentation from the President (Professor Jennifer
Bolton) outlining the ECCE Standards and their interpretation. This
was followed by presentations from the President, Director of the
Commission on Accreditation (Dr Arvid Thorkeldsen) and the Executive
Secretary (Mr David Burtenshaw) on the process of accreditation and
the role of Evaluation Team members in the accreditation process.
After lunch, workshops were held in which delegates could read
specimen Self-Study Reports from institutions seeking accreditation,
and identify relevant questions that would verify the Reports
against the ECCE Standards. The day ended with advice on writing the
Evaluation Report. The ECCE thanks IFEC for hosting this event and
in particular to Dr Thierry Kuster for the local organisation and
arrangements.
As more educational institutions are set up in Europe, the ECCE
will require a greater bank of people to draw on to ensure that
Evaluation Teams are able to carry out the work of the ECCE to the
necessary standard and in an appropriate and effective manner. Being
a member of an Evaluation Team is a challenging and demanding task,
but it is also interesting, informative and rewarding. The ECCE will
continue to hold these Training Events at regular intervals in the
future. More information is available on request.

SDU reaccredited for further 5 years until 2013 |
| |
| The ECCE is pleased to announce
that the Institute for Clinical Biomechanics at Syddansk Universitet
Odense, Denmark has been reaccredited for a period of five years
until 2013. In their report the evaluation team praised the
leadership provided by the Dean, and the Director of Study who have
raised the profile of Chiropractic within the Institute and the
University, and provided a vision for the future of chiropractic in
Denmark. The research ethos which underpins the educational model of
the Institute and results in high quality research informing the
learning experience and academic aspirations of the students was
also most impressive. One of the characteristics of the programme is
the interdisciplinary links with other medical sciences which foster
the integration of chiropractic within a wider health care
community. The evaluation team were impressed by the supportive role
provided by student mentors/counsellors in the early years of study
together with the support provided by student observers on the Study
Board. The Director of Studies had also introduced themed
intra-curricular activities which had strengthened chiropractic
identity within the Clinical Biomechanics programme.

ENQA - European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher
Education |
| |
| The ECCE submitted an application
for membership of this agency in December 2007. ENQA was established
in 2000 to promote co-operation among the quality assurance agencies
responsible for higher education in Europe, and to share good
practice. It was great news to hear that our application was
approved on the first attempt, and as a result, ECCE is a Candidate
Member of ENQA. The ECCE is currently working towards full
Membership of ENQA. Being part of a large organisation will do much
to facilitate the development of the ECCE and ensure that our
procedures and processes are not only current and up to date, but in
line with those operating at the highest level of quality assurance
in higher education in Europe. |

AECC reaccredited for further 5 years until
2012 |
| |
| The ECCE has been reaccredited
AECC for a further 5 years until 2012. At the conclusion of the

and direction given by the Board of Governors. CoA also praised the
curriculum which successfully enthuses both staff and students. CoA
were impressed by the links between teaching and research, the
programme of renewal including upgraded lecture theatres and

further enhance teaching and research facilities in the college. CoA
drew attention to the opportunities provided by public funding and
the links to the University of Bournemouth. The college was
congratulated for its support for staff development at all levels
throughout the college, the commitment, loyalty and enthusiasm of
the administrative, technical and support staff and its sound
long-term financial planning.
